Who We Are:

Welcome to IRIS Artisan Jewellery. We are a NEW exciting  jewellery business with a passion for people. The business has been established as a Social Enterprise. Our business aim is to design and hand make our jewellery in Scotland with locally sourced materials, crafters and silversmiths. being mindful of  both people and the environment over cost and ensuring a quality product. Our Social aim is to use the profits from our Business to grow and invest in young people to help them build their confidence and self-belief, leading them toward a more positive future.

Our Idea
In 2003, Iris Artisan Jewellery’s principle artist and designer, Margaret Coote, lost her 21 year old brother. The loss was not only felt within the family but across the wider community who knew the family. The loss of such a young person, for whatever reason, can have a devastating effect on both the family and the community. Margaret knew then that the seed was planted and so was the beginning of her drive and determination to do something in the future to help young people find a more positive way through the difficult years, has led to IRIS.  It has taken 14 years to bring this vision to life.

Our Name
The name IRIS is the name of the Greek Goddess of the rainbow, for Margaret the rainbow is a symbol of a bright moment in a dull day. Ironically Iris are also the first flower’s she chose to grow in her first garden. Margaret remembers planting the tiny bulbs and watching them grow into bright purple and yellow flowers. The name seems so fitting with our social aims, therefore it had to be IRIS.

Becoming a reality:
Our 2017 launch was made possible due to a surprisingly late discovery that Margaret was in fact very good at making jewellery. This fact was brought to light when she received gifts of  2 courses of classes with local silversmiths, who taught her basic skills with which she could start to develop the skill of producing unique and individual designs resulting in the beautiful handmade pieces available to you today. Margaret was fully supported along the way by many friends, family and work colleagues.

Margaret has received great support through Business Gateway and First Port who have provided both business advice and financial support. The Scottish Trade Fair have also supported Iris with a space on the launch Gallery. The support received has meant that  Iris Artisan Jewellery is presenting to you, products ready for market at least a year ahead of schedule.
